We’re All Going on a Summer Holiday.

Hey lovely readers!

I am back from my holiday in France and am really looking forward to catching up with you all :-)

Before I start this I just want to say an enormous thank you to all of you who commented on my Practice Makes Perfect post, I was so touched to read everything you wrote and I really really appreciate your kind words of support and encouragement! I will be replying to all of your lovely comments and I have to say that I feel really grateful to be part of such a supportive community.

Now, onto the holiday. We spent a week in the south-west of France, staying in a house right by a river. It was an absolutely beautiful setting and it was such a relaxing holiday. I was there with my parents, my sister and Tom and I really enjoyed the week.

We ate some absolutely delicious food – sunset drinks and nibbles, barbecues in our courtyard garden, delicious pastries…

We visited some fantastic places and saw some beautiful scenery.

We spent time having fun on the river! I was so so proud of myself for pushing myself and deciding to go canoeing, yes it hurt but it was just so much fun :-)

We visited a lovely food market.

And we went out for some absolutely amazing meals. The three course meal of tomato tarte tatin, cod in butter sauce with little vegetables, and a concoction of meringue, ice cream, cream and strawberries was just out of this world!

All in all it was a wonderful holiday and I have come back feeling really rested and content.

I hope you all had a brilliant week and enjoyed your weekend! I’m sure lots of you are watching 2012′s fantastic Olympics unfold, I definitely enjoyed the past two days. I have a week off work now before I start again for three weeks so I have lots of lovely plans :-)

Have you been away this summer?
What is the best thing you’ve eaten at a restaurant recently?

What do you love doing on holiday?

London Town.

Hey hey lovelies!

For those of you in the UK isn’t it nice to finally have some sunshine?

The last couple of days have been just lovely, I’ve spent the entire time with Tom and I couldn’t be happier :-) Who knew I could love spending so much time with just one person!

On Friday I was up bright and early to get ready for a day trip to London. It was absolutely pouring with rain so by the time I’d cycled to the train station I no longer looked fresh and well groomed, I resembled a drowned rat puppy. It hardly mattered though, clothes dry, as does hair!

I love train journeys when I’m headed to something I’m looking forward to. Watching the countryside zip past is always fun and it’s the perfect time to read my current book (Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea).

Arriving at Kings Cross it wasn’t actually raining (hooray) so I snapped a quick picture of a building that has always intrigued me, does anyone know why it is decorated like that?

The main plan for the day was to visit the Science Museum in South Kensington. I’ve never been before so it was a new experience for me. It’s a great museum, there is heaps to see and to do with lots of interactive displays to discover. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition on space discoveries and travel, it was really well set up and I actually learnt a fair bit. The room titled ‘Who Am I?’ is fantastic too, it is full of various machines on which you can do quizzes and play games such as taking a test to see whether you have a male or female brain (mine leans ever so slightly female, no surprises there!).

One of the (non-scientific) highlights of the visit was a trip to the Shake bar…

I went for a scoop of blueberry ice cream and it was just divine. It tasted so creamy and decadent, I’ve never had an ice cream like it, so delicious!

Definitely go check it out if you’re ever in London and you enjoy that sort of thing, I think it’s a brilliant place to take children too as there is a lot to keep them entertained and it’s very educational.

After spending a couple of hours wandering around the museum we hopped on the tube to Leicester Square for lunch at Leon’s.

My lunch consisted of their chilli chicken salad and it was fantastic. I love Leon as it serves purely fresh, healthy food made that day in the restaurant. It’s definitely my kind of fast food!

For the remainder of the day we just wandered around various parts of London before going for coffee and then getting on the train home.

The day didn’t finish there though, we were then off to watch The Dark Knight Rises. I know action films often get slated for poor plots and things like that, and I can imagine some critics probably had negative things to say about this but I had a brilliant time. The cinema was absolutely packed and they had two showings on at the same time, the crowds gave the place such a great atmosphere. It’s a fast paced film and I just love some of the characters (Michael Cain will always be a favourite with me, ditto Morgan Freeman) so it’s a fab bit of entertainment.

All in all a really lovely day :-)

Yesterday after a lazy morning we decided that, as we were finally having some fairly nice weather, it was a good day to go for a walk. We drove to a National Trust estate called Wimple Hall which has a lovely park (as well as an adorable farm which we didn’t visit). It was sunny and it felt so so nice to be out in the warmth, actually being able to enjoy the summer for once.

It’s been such a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!

Tomorrow I start work, if you’ve been reading my little blog for a year now then you may remember that I worked a children’s holiday scheme which focuses on arts and crafts. I’m going back there for the week and then a further three weeks in August and I’m quite looking forward to it. I like to feel like I’m doing something productive and it will give me a schedule (you know how I like things to be scheduled and planned!) .

Anyway I’m off to enjoy an evening of relaxing and an early night ;-)

Have you been on any day trips recently?
Do you enjoy visiting museums and galleries?
How have you been enjoying the summer weather?

Hello there!!

I am so so sorry for my disappearing act over the last week, I never meant to be quite so absent from the blogworld.

Firstly my laptop broke and had to be sent off to be fixed, then I was up in Durham for three days for Tom’s graduation and on top of all of that the house has been completely chaotic since I got back from uni as we are currently swapping round three of the rooms (my bedroom, Alice’s room and the study) so there are boxes everywhere!

I practically never disappear from my blog and twitter for so long and it actually feels a little odd… I think I am slightly addicted to using the internet. Oh well.

Because I haven’t had complete access to a computer I’ve also been mainly absent from your blogs for which I apologise profusely! I have so much to catch up on so if you have any really important blog posts make sure you point me in their direction!

Basically today I just want to share a few updates with you, namely the fantastic event which took place on Wednesday:

Doesn’t Tom look handsome in his robes?

I now have a graduate boyfriend with a fantastic Masters in Civil Engineering and I couldn’t be any prouder!

It was a really lovely day, the ceremony was wonderful – it took place in the cathedral and it was brilliant to watch Tom walk up the aisle and shake hands with the Chancellor. I can’t wait to see the official photographs from the day :-)

I’m a lucky girl to have such an amazing person as my boyfriend :-)

We enjoyed a really lovely meal in the evening with Tom’s family and a couple of his friends and their families. I decided not to take photos of the food as I just wanted to relax and enjoy the night with Tom and his family but I promise it was all delicious!

So there we are, that is what I have been doing all week. I will now be back to blogging daily as always! And the next post probably won’t be as soppy either ;-)

Have you ever been to a graduation ceremony? (Maybe your own!)
What have you been upto this week?

Well. This is it.

Tonight is my last night ever in my university accommodation.

Tomorrow morning my dad is coming to pick me up and help me finish packing. Then I’ll be jumping in the car and saying goodbye both to my flat and to this university.

I still feel as though it hasn’t had time to sink in but I’m still feeling pretty positive about everything.

Posting has been pretty irregular and I’m really sorry about this! Things will definitely be back to normal from tomorrow once I’m back home, there are lots of exciting things happening in the next few weeks so I can’t wait to tell you all about those :-)

I left Tom’s around lunch time which was sad as I’ve had a really fantastic couple of weeks staying with him. We are incredibly close and getting to be together for such a lengthy period of time was such a treat. I’m feeling a bit soppy right now so I just have to say how lucky I am and how grateful I feel to have such a wonderful boyfriend!

… Okay I’m done. Sorry ;-)

Anyway I’m off to bed, I’m absolutely shattered from the journey and I had another rough day yesterday (I napped for three hours, missed most of a barbecue party, collapsed… but that’s over now!)

I hope you’ve all had a brilliant week, I can’t wait to catch up on everything you’ve been upto!

What have you been getting upto this week?
Do you enjoy packing?
Any exciting plans for the next few weeks?

What I Ate Wednesday No.34 – Rather Delicious.

Yep, you guessed it! It’s time for another round of WIAW…

As always a massive thank you to the lovely Jenn for creating this link-up! If you’re new to this, go check out her blog to see what it’s all about :-)

Rather than share a typical day of food with you, I want to show you some photos of the rather fantastic food that I’ve been eating with Tom this week. You are definitely in for an absolute treat!

Breakfast here is my usual staple, bowl upon bowl of weetabix… I thought you wouldn’t be interested so I’ll go straight to lunch:

A rather tasty tomato chicken pasta salad bought from Boots (along with a couple of lipsticks I just couldn’t resist!)

Along with pretty nice lunches I’ve also been enjoying several cups of this stuff:

Caramel lattes are the best way to warm up when the rain is falling heavily outside. As you may have guessed, Tom and I have spent many hours sat by cafe windows watching the world (and the rain) go by.

However, the real treat I’ve been eating this week has definitely been dinner. On Monday night a group of Tom’s friends decided to go watch the football in a pub and then take a trip to the cinema to watch Men In Black 3. We thought the time in between would be a perfect opportunity to grab some dinner ;-)

Scampi and chips from a local fish n’ chip restaurant. The scampi was lovely and fresh and the portion was perfect – I ate the entire plate. Well we wouldn’t want it going to waste would we? ;-)

I was a little apathetic about the film beforehand but it actually turned out to be pretty funny, I enjoyed it and it was fun to go out with Tom’s friends.

Now, I have definitely saved the best till last!

Last night Tom booked us a table at a really lovely restaurant and we dressed up for our three course meal together, to celebrate the end of exams and the start of our summer together. It was easily the best meal I’ve eaten in ages. Tom wore his gorgeous new blazer from Zara and I wore my favourite maxi from FCUK, I think we make a pretty smart couple…

To start with I went for a dish of spicy aubergine crostini which was fantastic.

Tom decided to have an avocado and prawn starter which looked really good too, it would have been my second choice!

For the main course the choice was clear and we both went for the same thing. A dish of fresh trout served with gorgeous greens and a special potato mash. It was just wonderful, the butter sauce was absolutely delicious!

Finally, what could better complete a beautiful dinner than an amazing chocolate pavlova (mine) and the perfect crème brûlée (Tom’s)…

It was such a brilliant evening, we strolled back home around 10pm when it was still light and settled down with full and happy stomachs. I only have a couple of days left here with Tom before I head back home for a week. I have been having the most amazing time and I am so lucky to have Tom, he makes me feel like one very lucky girl!

I hope you are all having a lovely week and that it has been raining less where you are than here!

What is the best thing you’ve eaten this week?
Have you eaten out recently?

Still Here, Still Having Fun.

Hey lovely people!

I am still alive and well, I promise. I’ve just been crazy busy enjoying life and freedom with Tom. Despite the absolutely foul weather we have had for the majority of the week, we have had heaps of fun and it still feels absolutely amazing to be free.

I apologize for the lack of posts in the last few days, I had all intentions to write one yesterday but then, as you might know if you follow me on twitter, I completely crashed. I’m not complaining though as I saw it coming because we walked around 8 miles in total on Thursday (I actually haven’t walked that far in months). I spent the entire day in bed, never changing from my pajamas. Sounds lazy but believe me I really needed it.

Before I move on to show you some of the food I’ve been eating, I just want to say thank you so SO much for all of your lovely comments on my last post. I was really touched to read so many encouraging and supportive comments. Receiving wonderful kind words like those are what make blogging such a rewarding activity and I’m so grateful for all of your continued support!

As I mentioned before, it has been raining pretty much everyday here which is somewhat depressing but despite the weather we have left the house everyday (apart from yesterday obviously) and this means one thing: cafes. Lots and lots of time has been spent in cafes and as those of you who read my blog regularly, wiling away the hours in a cafe is one of my favourite pastimes ;-)

Here are a few photos of treats in cafes and rather tasty (and healthy) dinners…

As well as cakes from cafes in town and dinners cooked with Tom, we also had a rather lovely meal at Bella Italia for Tom’s brother’s birthday. I stepped away from the usual, which for me would obviously be pasta, and went with something a little heftier:

Cajun chicken burger in a ciabatta bun served with chips and an onion marmalade. It was so tasty, definitely worth it. It has left me with a craving for chips though…

All in all I’ve had a fantastic week and I’m looking forward to another!

What have you all been upto this weekend?
Do you go for the safe option in restaurants?
What is your favourite cafe treat?

Time Off.

I simply cannot explain how amazing it feels to have finished with this year and to enjoy a few days of relaxing with zero responsibilities. Seriously, I feel as though a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I can finally fall asleep at night without feeling anxious about everything I have to do.

So on Friday morning I jumped on the train for the 4 hour journey up to stay with Tom. I was impatient practically the entire time but luckily had the seemingly endless story that is Vanity Fair. I’m still only about 60% of the way there!

Getting to Tom’s and finally being able to collapse into his arms (almost literally!) was so needed and we’ve spent the last few days just really enjoying each other’s company.

Saturday involved a trip into town where I bought myself a couple of beauty products I needed (and wanted) and we spent time catching up in a cafe by the river. The drink I had is one of my favourites, on the sugary side and pretty unhealthy but just so delicious. I can’t get it anywhere else so when I spend time here I always get it.

Raspberry mocha frappe. It really is delicious.

I also decided to go for an almond and raspberry slice which is something I adore. If there’s a treat I can almost never say no to it’s a slice of cake or tray bake ;-)

Today was equally lovely, we took a trip to the cinema to watch The Avengers. I’ve already seen it but Tom hadn’t been able to and it’s definitely his type of film so I was perfectly happy to see it again. It was just as funny the second time around! I have to say I love Iron Man’s character, he has some brilliant one-liners.

Other than that we stayed in and played some computer games, I think we both needed some mind-numbing entertainment. Our choices of computer games are rather different, I like to design houses on the Sims, Tom likes a bit more action :-P I’d forgotten quite how much fun the Sims could be, it definitely reminds me of being about 12 years old!

Dinner was really tasty this evening, spicy chicken fajitas with salad.

It’s just so nice to spend time at Tom’s, as he remarked yesterday, it’s sort of like living on your own but better. We don’t get in each other’s way, both of us still do our own things, but you have the lovely company.

I hope you have all had a fantastic weekend!

What have you been up to this weekend?
If you’re in Britain have you been doing anything for the Jubilee?
I love the bunting everywhere!
Do you prefer living on your own, with family, with your other half, or with friends?
